Why Do Windows Updates Get Stuck or Fail?
Often users think their internet is slow, so the update got stuck, but the real problem lies in the system’s background services and hidden folders. Let’s understand technically why updates fail:
- Corrupted SoftwareDistribution Folder: Whenever Windows downloads a new update, all the files are saved in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. If the internet connection fluctuates or an error occurs in the background, these files become corrupted, and the new update neither downloads nor installs.
- Stuck BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service): This service downloads Windows updates in the background. If a file gets stuck in the BITS queue, the entire update process freezes.
- Cryptographic Services (CryptSvc) Issues: This service is used to verify the digital signatures of Windows update files. If there’s a glitch in it, Windows will reject the update, considering it fake or unsafe.
- Network & DNS Cache Corruption: Often, due to old DNS caching, the system cannot establish a proper connection with Microsoft’s update servers (servers connect).

How to Use This Tool Properly?
After downloading the script, carefully follow these steps to permanently solve your update problem:
- Extract the downloaded ZIP file to your Desktop.
- In the extracted folder, right-click the Update-Reset.bat file.
- Be sure to select “Run as administrator” from the menu. (The script will not work without this).
- A black CMD screen will open where you will see the services stop and restart process in green text. This will take only about 5-10 seconds.
- When “Windows Update Reset Completed Successfully” appears on the screen, press any key to close the window.
- Most Important Step: Be sure to restart your PC! After it restarts, go to Settings > Windows Update and click ‘Check for updates’. Your problem should be solved!
